Welcome to the USRA web site.
The Upper Saxondale Residents Association was formed in 1997 a few months after the first residents moved in. Originally, it was conceived to simply be a lobbying body to represent the new residents against the developer – David Wilson Homes (DWH). There were a number of issues which folks were concerned about that weren’t immediately put in place by DWH and we wanted to form a unified voice rather than complaining in ones and two’s.
A lot of good and hard work was put in during those early days to ensure our beautiful neighborhood ended up looking like it did in the brochure! But there was also a growing sense of community – by and large the people that moved here were family people who were looking for a good standard of living in nice surroundings. There soon became a series of social events where we all got to know our new neighbors and enjoy the development.
In more recent times, USRA has perhaps been less of a lobbying body now that all the construction has finished – although we do have contact with local council and government bodies from time to time still. We are now more of a traditional residents association – providing a series social events – the ball, the Last Night of The Proms Night, Christmas Dinner and kids Christmas party to raise funds to then put back into the area.
Efforts recently have been centered around the land to the right of the tennis courts which we bought from DWH in 2006 and are in the process of developing as a community woodland and nature area. We were successful recently in obtaining a grant to fund this project and are actively looking for more finance to keep the work up.
I am sure we will be met by more and different challenges as time moves on – but we do need help and input from the residents. The committee meets in the clubhouse on the last Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm and all are welcome. Otherwise e-mail me at chairman@usra.org.uk
Take a look round the rest of the web site and do let us have your feedback.
